Amy's Bio
What is your current role at United Way of Reno County, and what are your primary responsibilities?
I am the Community Engagement Specialist, which means I assist the team with Community Events and make connections within the community to further our fundraising goals and to further our mission.
I run the Delta Dental Program for UWRC. I enjoy this work very much. It is exciting to call people with the good news that they have dental coverage to help them with major dental needs. This program is life changing.
What previous work experiences have shaped your career, and how did they lead you to United Way?
I have a master's degree in social work from KU and began my career in Wichita as a mental health therapist. I then moved to Hutchinson and worked at Horizons for many years primarily with children and adolescents. I made a switch and became a social worker at Hospice. I have worked with many different groups of people and have learned so much through it all.
What inspired you to work in the nonprofit sector, and what drew you to United Way?
Beginning my job with UWRC 4 years ago was a good fit for me with my Social Work background. I have spent my adult life in non-profit work helping people. I believe deeply in the importance of valuing all people and helping them to thrive.
How do you like to spend your time outside of work, and what activities do you enjoy with your family?
Outside of work I like to spend time with my husband and family and friends. I enjoy walks, working out, reading, playing tennis and singing in the community.
What is one lesson you've learned throughout your career that you apply to your work at United Way?
One lesson I've learned throughout my career is that most humans are just really great people!
If you could have any superpower for a day, what would it be and how would you use it to make a difference in your community?
My super power would be to erase mental illness. Is that a super power? Imagine a world without depression, PTSD and suicide.
Peace to you. Amy
