What motivates you to serve on the board of United Way of Reno County?
The opportunity to help support our local nonprofits. I am especially interested in finding ways to provide upward mobility to neighbors in Reno County.
What’s one local cause or issue in Reno County that you're particularly passionate about?
I am passionate about creating a community where everyone belongs and thrives – weather it is housing, economic development, our building inclusive spaces, I want to make sure that everyone feels proud and connected to the communities we live in.
What do you believe is the biggest impact that United Way can have in our community?
I think the United Way can create more awareness about ALICE families who are one crisis away from poverty. These are hardworking neighbors in the retail, beauty, and dinning and entertainment industries. These are folks we interact with every day, but we might not be totally aware of the challenges the financial and social challenges they face daily. At the end of the day, our work is to uplift them and ensure they have opportunities for upward mobility.
What’s your favorite way to spend a Saturday in Reno County?
My wife Maddy and I have a tradition to visit the framers market every Saturday followed by a visit to the Metro Coffee drive through. We love cooking and spending times with our friends and family.
What’s a moment or experience during your time with United Way that has left a lasting impression on you?
I was selected to represent the United Way International in 2023 at the One Young World Conference in Northern Ireland – it was a memorable trip and I got to connect with innovative leaders from every corner of the world.
How do you like to give back to your community outside of your role with United Way?
We’ve been a Big Brothers Big Sisters couple match for the past 5 years. It is such a special opportunity to spend time with our little brother helping him with homework, teaching him our cooking skills, or just relaxing.
