Support Spotlight
In 2023, a unique initiative funded by the City of Hutchinson and United Way of Reno County provided an opportunity to extend Noel Lodge Emergency Overnight Shelter to include daytime access. During this last year of additional operational hours, Noel Lodge’s daytime shelter program has seen inspiring results, with 60% of participants securing employment and 40% finding permanent housing.
Central to this success has been the work of Kylee Branton, this month’s Unhoused Support Spotlight recipient.
Kylee, who has served as a Resource Specialist with New Beginnings since November 2022, played a key role in connecting shelter participants with essential resources, guiding them through each stage of their journey. Her commitment and care reflect her personal experience and understanding of the hardships faced by those she supports, providing a sense of encouragement and guidance when it’s most needed.
Reflecting on her role, Kylee shared what fuels her passion for helping others: “My favorite thing about helping people is watching how quickly people can overcome some of their worst times and thrive. I also have been where some of these people have been, so I understand their struggle, and I know it is possible to make the next step.”
Kylee’s approach to supporting those experiencing homelessness includes breaking down stereotypes and highlighting the resilience of those she serves. She emphasized, “The people that I help, they are just like you and me. These people need a hand up, not a handout. Most, if not all, go out every day to find a job or stay busy. They want to do better and live the life they deserve.”
Through her unwavering dedication, Kylee not only embodies the mission of Noel Lodge but also sets an example for the community of how compassion, connection, and shared understanding can change lives. Kylee’s work has made a lasting impact on those she serves and stands as a powerful reminder of the importance of community support in addressing homelessness.
