Our board members are dedicated leaders committed to strengthening our community. In this section, you'll learn more about what inspires Shauna to serve on the United Way of Reno County board and her vision for the future of our organization.

What motivates you to serve on the board of United Way of Reno County?

I love being a part of an organization with people that truly care about their community.  We choose to see the world without rose colored glasses and pull up our sleeves to find solutions.

What’s one local cause or issue in Reno County that you're particularly passionate about?

I've been able to see firsthand how Reno County Connections can change someone's life.  Someone from the Haven Community was released from jail, only to come home with nowhere to live and no possessions.  He spent several cold nights trying to fend for himself before I was able to connect him with Reno Connections and United Ways partner NOEL Lodge.  They were able to get him into short term housing, some warm food and a new Driver's License so that he could secure his Social Security again.

What do you believe is the biggest impact that United Way can have in our community?

United Way gives us the knowledge & ability to find quick & efficient solutions to the problems we face.  Whether it be storm clean up, childcare solutions or people in need, United Way is the doorway to solutions.

What’s your favorite way to spend a Saturday in Reno County?

We love to go to one of the local brewers, shop downtown or lounge in a recliner at B&B theatre.

What’s a moment or experience during your time with United Way that has left a lasting impression on you?

I was completely taken back to learn about the opiate crisis happening in Reno County.  The presentation was very informative about what it is and what we can do to help change it. I often think back to this presentation and how I can be more informed & aware moving forward.

How do you like to give back to your community outside of your role with United Way?

I try to serve my community in many ways by helping with different events held throughout the year.  I'm also the Chairman on the Haven Recreation Board, a youth leader at the Haven Baptist Church and coach Middle School Volleyball.  I've recently created a partnership to help purchase old, dilapidated homes in our community and bring them back to their glory. This allows an opportunity for someone to take those first steps into home ownership & keeps our town property values elevated.
